Grading of Courses Hindi Language The entire grade is based upon homework and exam grades in India, though students are strongly encouraged to learn as much of the script as they can in during the summer. Part of the journal assignment in the summer is to write out the letters of the alphabet in Devanagari, the script used for Hindi. Hindi script lessons are available free on-line at http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/plc/hindi/alphabet/ Grading of Historic and Contemporary India Courses 10%: Summer reading and journal entries (See Journal) 30 % Journal Entries in India: You will be expected to make basic descriptive journal entries for each of the readings, classroom lectures, discussions and field trips. Journal entries in India will count about 30% of your final grade for the History and Contemporary India courses. 30% Papers: In addition you will be specifically asked to do occasional analytical essays on topics which integrate lectures, readings and outside experience. These specifically assigned papers will count for another 30% of your grade in each of the History and Contemporary India courses. 30% Participation in Discussions: This portion of your grade in each of the History and Contemporary India courses will be based upon your contributions to discussions throughout our time in India. These contributions will include the times when you are asked to be the designated leader of a specific discussion topic. Grading of Independent Research Project (See Guidelines for project)
